One of the great new features of the Music app in iOS 11 is the ability to share your music with friends and family.

That’s not all, because you can also follow friends, see what they’ve recently played, their likes and their playlists. Here’s how Apple describes the new social features:

Now your friends can help you discover new songs and artists. Each of you can have your own profile on Apple Music, where you can see playlists they’ve shared as well as albums and stations they listen to often.

To get started, open the Music app, tap the For You button then your profile icon in the top-right corner of the screen. On the following screen you’ll see the music you’ve recently played with shortcuts for adding friends below.

Edit your profile

Tap the Edit button below your profile and you’ll be able to add a profile photo, username and choose if anyone can follow you and see your activity, or just those your approve. Tap Cancel or Done to return to the previous screen.

Add more friends

Below your profile you’ll see a button for adding and finding more friends. Tap it and you’ll see any contacts with Apple Music set up. You can also invite friends on Facebook if you know that they also have Apple Music.

Enable Notifications

If you want to hear when the latest album or mix is out, or whenever your friends add a new playlist, go to your profile then tap the View Account button at the bottom of the screen (you might need to scroll down to see it). On the following screen, tap Notifications then toggle the Friends or Artists switches on or off.
