Automatically transfer your old iPhone to the one with no wires or downloads!
When you go from one iPhone to another, it’s a good idea to install a backup from your previous device on the new device. A backup contains all your personal data, including photos, apps, app settings, contacts, message history and more; so in just a few taps you can set up your new iPhone to be just like the old one.
Before you begin…
If you have an Apple Watch make sure to unpair it from your old iPhone before you set up the new one. To do this open the Apple Watch app, tap My Watch, select your watch, tap the info button then tap Unpair Apple Watch.
If your old iPhone is running iOS 11, then you can transfer all of your data directly to your new iPhone X in just a few steps. This process takes some time, however, so choose a time when you don’t need to use either iPhone for a few minutes.
- Transfer your sim card from the old iPhone to the new iPhone.
- Turn on your new iPhone X and place it next to your old iPhone. The Quick Start screen will automatically appear and offer the option of using your Apple ID to set up the new device. Make sure it’s the right Apple ID, then tap Continue.
- Wait for an animation to appear on your iPhone X, the hold your old iPhone above thew iPhone X and use the camera viewfinder to centre the animation in the middle of the screen. When you see a button that says Finish on New [Device], tap the button and follow the on-screen options to transfer your apps, data and settings to the new iPhone.
- If you have an Apple Watch, you’ll be asked if you would like to transfer your Apple Watch data and settings too.
