1. The update badge
There’s an easy way to tell when a new software update is available: the Settings app will show a small red badge above it, as seen in the screenshot below. To find out more about the update, open the Settings app.
2. Software Update
Tap the General button in the left-hand pane, then tap the Software Update Button. You’ll see a number alongside it to indicate there’s an update available.
3. Update details
You’ll see a short description of the update. In this example, it’s to fix a few small bugs. To download and install the update, simply tap the Install Now button.
4. Terms and Conditions
A Terms and Conditions window will appear. If you have time to read it, scroll down the text using your finger. When ready to proceed, tap the blue Agree button.
5. Update installing
The update files will be verified (to make sure that every bit of data has been properly downloaded) then the update will be begin. The process is automated, so sit back while the update installs. After a minute or two your iPhone will restart and return to the Lock Screen. Congratulations, the update has been installed.
