Audio and video messages can quickly clog up your iDevice, especially on those with 8 or 16GB of storage.
That’s because iMessage automatically stores every multimedia message on your device, whether it’s a text message, photo, video or audio recording. Admittedly this is helpful for when you want to scrub through your message history to re-read an earlier message, or see a photo that a friend sent a few days ago; but as the weeks and months go by you’re likely to see your available memory go down and down.
Thankfully it’s rather easy to save space with a new feature in iOS 8 that lets you automatically remove audio and video messages after 2 minutes. To do this, go to Settings > Messages, then scroll down until you see the AUDIO MESSAGES and VIDEO MESSAGES panels. You’ll see an option called Expire, tap it, then tick the After 2 Minutes option to automatically delete audio and video messages two minutes after you’ve viewed them.
