Facebook is the biggest social media website in the world, with more than one billion active users and counting. Arguably, Facebook for iPhone is the best way to access the site. The app has a wonderful design and layout, enabling you to quickly read the latest posts, chat to friends and view photos with just a few swipes of your finger.

The app also supports Facebook chat, so you can talk to friends, family and colleagues for free and in real-time. Read on to discover how to add friends, post updates, upload photos and more…

 

1. Get started

Download the Facebook app from the App Store. After installation and you’ll be asked to log into your account. If you don’t already have one, tap the Register button. Once logged in, you’ll see the news feed appear. This will display all the latest posts from your friends, family and contacts. Swipe your finger from left to right to reveal the side bar.

At the top of the Sidebar is a shortcut to your profile page, below are links to your messages, friends, nearby, events, photos and more. Above the news feed are shortcuts to notifications, messages and friend requests. These will be highlighted with a red circle if any new messages, notifications or requests have been made.

 

3. Post an update

Tap the Status button near the top of the screen at any time write and post a new update. While writing a post, you’ll see buttons above the keyboard for adding friends, a location, a photo, and selecting the target audience.

4. Live chat

To chat with any of your friends, simply swipe from right to left from the homescreen of Facebook. Any available friends with chat capability will display a green button next to their name. After tapping on an available friend a chat window will slide across the screen. Enter a message then tap the Send button.

 

5. Share photos and videos

It’s easy to upload photos to Facebook on iPhone. From your profile page, tap the Share Photo button beneath your main profile image. You can now choose to upload a photo or video from your iPhone’s library, or take a new photo or video. You can also add a comment and tag the photo/video’s location.

6. Add a friend

To add a new Facebook friend, swipe left to right to see the side bar then tap the search button. Next, enter the friends name into the search field and you’ll see results appear in real-time. Results are organized by relevance, so anyone with a mutual friend will appear at the top, as will celebrities and groups with similar a name. Select one, then tap Add Friend to add them to your Facebook friends list.

 

7. Unfriend

If you no longer wish to keep in touch with a friend via Facebook, then it’s easy to Unfriend them. Simply search for them, visit their Facebook page then tap the Friends button. Next, tap the Unfriend button at the bottom of the pop-up window
